The Campus Center served as a makeshift movie theater on the evening of this past Monday,Oct. 24, 2011. Campus Movie Fest, a festival in which offers students the opportunity to create their own film, is commonly celebrated on many college campuses across the world. Equipment is loaned to students by the program, and participants are given one week to make a film less than five minutes long.

Poets filled the campus center Monday to watch these student made films. Only the 16 best films, selected by Campus Movie Fest, made the cut and were viewed.

Winning this year’s competition was senior Andrew Swett’s crew with the film I am in the Heavenly Fields. The film was an American folk fantasy about love-struck teenagers. Seniors Kevin Sun and Reed Price utilized their camera wizardry, and were rewarded for it with the first place prize in cinematography.

Another notable film from the event is Trust. A fan favorite, the film has the most views on YouTube thus far. The film starred first-year Sean Golightly, who also happened to win best actor.

The film was about a man gambling his soul to the devil in a game of liar’s dice and made complex shots look seamless. The film that has the most YouTube views by Nov. 23 wins the wildcard prize, entering it in a chance to be viewed at Campus Movie Fest Hollywood.

Campus Movie Fest is a 10-year-old organization that supports campuses worldwide. They have in 10 years given out $2 million in prizes and have recently partnered with Virgin Airlines, allowing riders to view the student made films.
