1. According to a 2007 study on college student dropout rates, financial pressure is the number one reason students drop out of college—a strong 38 percent of dropouts.

2. There are on average 1,125,000 college dropouts per year. This means that 427,500 of these students left school because of financial issues.

3. The average wage of a student’s in-wcollege job is $11 per hour.

4. The average college student’s debt after college is $23,700 and the average debt payment per month is $432.

5. It is 400 percent more expensive to go to college in the United States today than it was just 30 years ago.

6. Americans now owe more than $875 billion on student loans, which is more than the total amount that Americans owe on their credit cards.

7. About two-thirds of college student graduates have outstanding student loans.

8. Employed students work, on average, 30 hours a week while enrolled as a full-time student.

9. About a fourth of full-time students nationwide also have full-time jobs.

10. Research has shown that working 15 or fewer hours per week has a positive effect on persistence and degree completion—in an ideal world, these are on-campus jobs or a position related to one’s major. Only a small number of working students fulfill this ideal.
