Softball Head Coach Shelley Whitaker recently announced the schedule for the upcoming 2012 season and looks to continue Whittier’s run of four consecutive seasons of making it to the post season.

The Poets went 23-19, 11-13 in SCIAC, in 2011 while having senior infielder Molly Yriarte, junior outfielder Nikki Mendoza and junior infielder Brenda Thompson named to the ALL-SCIAC team.

The Lady Poets open their season on Tuesday, Feb. 7 with a doubleheader against Hope International beginning at 1 p.m. and then face conference rivals La Verne and Redlands on Saturday and Sunday Feb. 11 and 19 to begin conference play.
Eight of their 16 non-conference games will be played at Palmer Field, including matchups against Staten Island, Webster and Hamline University.

The Poets start the season with six straight home games and then travel to play against the Athena’s of Claremont-M-S on Feb. 25, followed then by a 10-game homestand against conference opponents Cal Lu and Pomona-Pitzer.

Other games to highlight are the doubleheader against the Occidental College Tigers on the road on Saturday, April 21 beginning at noon.

A live video feed will also be available this softball season for all the games at Palmer Field along with live video commentary.
