Screams echoed throughout Club 88 as the battle of the bands rocked the Campus Center on Friday, Oct. 28. Club 88 was haunted that night with ghosts, ghouls and zombies. As each group of scare-seekers, or victims, however you want to call it, walked to the entrance, a guide greeted them and led them into the dark maze of horror.

“This Haunted House was put on by the Inter-Society Council, ISC, so members from all societies were invited to participate,” sophomore Vanessa Gonzales said. Gonzales was one of the many students to volunteer to scare in the haunted house. “I really enjoyed scaring people; it was a lot of fun to be a part of,” Gonzales said.

Among the terrifying scenes in the Haunted House was the creepy bedroom, where students screamed to get out of their rooms and crawled around on the floor.

Shrieks and wails filled the air as an ominous television showed nothing but static, which created a very unnerving atmosphere.

Another terrifying attraction was the cannibal cafeteria, filled with severed limbs and hungry customers shooting hungry looks at the scare-seekers. Crudely hacked body parts littered the ground, the tables and even hung from the ceiling.

The sheer grotesque nature of this area created an unsettling feeling in the air. Throughout the entire walk, the groups would unexpectedly encounter a ghastly student wielding a bloody knife, whom proceeded to scream and charge towards them. This and many other creepy scenes were frequent during the haunted walk. “I’ve got to admit it was pretty scary,” first-year Joe Tortillani said. “It was well put on and the people in it were very in character.”

Throughout the maze of scares the strobe lights were flashing and the fog machines were billowing smoke, creating a very creepy atmosphere. “It was definitely a very interesting and creative event,” first-year Keaton Hardwick said. “I wasn’t necessarily scared throughout the whole thing, but it was very well put on.”

Altogether, the Haunted House in Club 88 both thrilled and terrified its participants and victims. To know for sure, all you had to do was listen to the screams that echoed from its walls.
