The Whittier College men’s rugby team has been preparing for a very promising spring season. After a nail-biting pre-season game against Point Loma University on Saturday, Nov. 20, the Poets came out on top. In the last two minutes, Point Loma was down by two and missed the long kick that would have sealed the game. Chris Clay scored the majority of the tries, closely followed by sophomores Kevin Landucci and Michael Sabir. The Whittier crowd beamed with excitement as they read the final score of 26-24.

“We’re not even close to our full potential as a club yet,” Landucci said. “But since we have three full months to prepare for our regular season, and our national tournament is in April, that’s plenty of time to improve and everyone better come watch our games because we’re going to be great.”

The first game of regular season is against Occidental on Feb. 5 and the team is developing their new players in the mean time. Come out and support the Poets in their last pre-season game this Sunday against Fullerton College.
