“Be thankful for all that has been given to you.” These words are tossed around a lot, especially during the holidays. However, we should all take a moment to really ponder this thought and be grateful for the opportunities given to us, rather than complain about what we do not have, or what could have been.

During these holidays, which are filled with joy, family and good friends, let us all be sure to cherish every day as if it were a gift. Living here in the United States is a privilege in it of itself that we should give thanks for. As turmoil and political uncertainty rule in unstable countries around the world, we are able to enjoy the freedoms granted to us by our country. Freedoms protected by the men and women of our armed forces, who put themselves on the line, here at home as well as abroad.

As we approach finals, a time where grumbles about late nights and over-packed exams are the norm, we should change our outlook and be thankful just for being here, and being given the opportunity to pursue a higher education from a fine private institution. As we prepare to wind down this often stressful semester, let us be thankful for what we have, and who we have around us. Happy Holidays!
